U.S. Provides 500,000 Dengue Test Kits to Bangladesh

By AIP Wire Staff, Dhaka, New York-

The United States is providing 500,000 U.S.-made dengue rapid diagnostic test kits to Bangladesh as the country continues to deal with a surge in dengue cases.

The test kits are being provided through the U.S. government-funded STRIDES Activity to Bangladesh’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. The support is intended to strengthen dengue detection and help health authorities manage patients during the ongoing outbreak.

The kits were formally handed over on October 1 in Dhaka at Kurmitola Multicare Specialized Hospital. U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Trishita Maula presented the supplies to Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain.

Health officials and hospital representatives also attended the handover ceremony, including Health Services Division Secretary Dr. A.N.M. Bazlur Rashid, Director General of Health Services Dr. Pravath Chandra Biswas, and KMSH Director Brigadier General Md. Saydur Rahman.

During the visit, the delegation toured the hospital’s emergency room, dengue ward, and diagnostic laboratory. They also observed healthcare workers treating dengue patients and reviewed U.S.-supported equipment being used to strengthen diagnostic capacity.

The U.S. Embassy said the assistance supports Bangladesh’s efforts to improve the detection and management of dengue cases amid the current surge.

The dengue test kits are part of broader U.S. health assistance to Bangladesh through the STRIDES Activity.
