Bangladesh has urged stronger international efforts to ensure information integrity and combat misinformation, disinformation, and hate speech at the United Nations Committee on Information.
Speaking at the 48th session at UN Headquarters, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury highlighted the growing risks posed by false information and the misuse of artificial intelligence and digital platforms, warning that they are deepening divisions and weakening public trust.
He also stressed the need to bridge the global digital divide and promote responsible use of information technologies. Referring to Bangladesh’s role in UN peacekeeping, including women peacekeepers, he called for efforts to counter misinformation about peacekeeping missions and improve accountability.
Chowdhury also pointed to disinformation-linked humanitarian concerns in the Rohingya crisis and Gaza, urging accurate global reporting and greater awareness.
Bangladesh reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening global communication in line with UN principles.
