India Sends 4.7 Million Liters of Diesel to Bangladesh

AIP Wire report New York, Dhaka—India has supplied nearly 4,000 metric tons, or about 4.7 million liters, of diesel to Bangladesh through the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline.

The latest shipment reached the Parbatipur Receiving Terminal Depot in Dinajpur as the pipeline’s 72nd consignment. The transfer took place between September 13 and September 15, according to Bangladeshi officials cited by multiple local reports.

The delivery comes as Bangladesh seeks additional fuel supplies amid increased demand. Bangladesh had requested additional petroleum products from India in August, according to reports.

The Friendship Pipeline was established under a 2018 bilateral agreement under which Bangladesh agreed to import about 2 million tonnes of diesel from India over 15 years. Since the pipeline began operations in March 2023, Bangladesh has received 330,087 tonnes of diesel through the facility.

The pipeline has an annual capacity of 1 million metric tons of high-speed diesel. Its Bangladesh section runs for about 126.57 kilometers through Panchagarh, Nilphamari, and Dinajpur before reaching the Parbatipur depot.

The latest supply adds to ongoing energy cooperation between the two countries. Bangladesh distributes the fuel among three state-owned companies—Padma Oil, Meghna Petroleum, and Jamuna Oil.

India has supplied additional diesel to Bangladesh at several points this year. Earlier consignments included larger deliveries in March and April, followed by further supplies in May and July.

The latest shipment provides Bangladesh with another direct supply of refined fuel through an established cross-border energy route.
