Senior Correspondent, Dhaka:
China has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the modernization of Bangladesh’s defense sector, signaling continued momentum in the two countries’ longstanding military relationship.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen made the commitment during a meeting with Defense Adviser Brigadier General (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam at the Armed Forces Division in Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).
The discussions focused on expanding existing defense cooperation, particularly through professional training, military education exchanges and the development of technical capabilities.
Both sides also stressed the importance of sharing experience and expanding training opportunities to help their armed forces respond to emerging security and technological challenges.
The discussions suggest that Bangladesh-China defense cooperation is moving beyond equipment and procurement toward greater emphasis on training, technical expertise and institutional exchanges. Such cooperation could help Bangladesh strengthen the professional and technological capabilities of its armed forces.
The defense adviser highlighted the long-standing relationship and strategic partnership between Dhaka and Beijing, while appreciating China’s support for Bangladesh’s development.
The Chinese ambassador, meanwhile, reiterated Beijing’s readiness to continue assisting Bangladesh’s defense modernization.
The two sides agreed to explore broader cooperation in areas of mutual interest, indicating that defense ties are likely to remain an important component of the wider Bangladesh-China partnership.
