USTR Delegation Visit Signals Focus on Market Access and Investment Climate

AIP Wire report, Dhaka office.

A delegation from the Office of the United States Trade Representative, led by Brendan Lynch, is visiting Dhaka from May 5 to 7, underscoring a renewed emphasis on strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties between the United States and Bangladesh.

The visit comes at a time when both sides are seeking to translate policy intent into practical outcomes, particularly through the proposed U.S.-Bangladesh Agreement on Reciprocal Trade. The framework aims to improve market access, reduce regulatory and investment barriers, and expand commercial engagement across sectors.

For Bangladesh, the discussions provide an opportunity to address longstanding issues related to trade facilitation, compliance standards, and investor confidence—areas that remain critical as the country prepares for post-LDC graduation. For the United States, the engagement reflects a broader strategy to deepen economic partnerships in South Asia amid evolving regional dynamics.

While immediate breakthroughs may be limited, the visit signals a structured effort to move toward more predictable and mutually beneficial trade relations.
