Sadik Sagar, Dhaka:
Bangladesh ranked ahead of China in garment exports to the United States during January–February 2026, according to data released by the Office of Textiles and Apparel on April 4, reflecting changes in sourcing patterns in the US market.
During the period, Bangladesh exported garments worth $1.37 billion, marking an 8.53 percent decline compared to the same period last year. China’s exports fell more sharply, declining 57.65 percent year-on-year to $1.17 billion, placing it third among apparel exporters to the US. Vietnam remained the top exporter, with shipments valued at $2.7 billion, up 2.88 percent.
The shift in rankings comes amid evolving trade conditions, including the impact of US tariff measures and broader adjustments in global supply chains. These factors appear to have influenced sourcing decisions among US importers.
At the same time, overall US apparel imports declined by 13.47 percent year-on-year to $11.53 billion during the January–February period, indicating a contraction in demand.
The latest data suggests a period of transition in the US apparel market, with changes in both supplier positions and total import volumes. Bangladesh’s position as the second-largest exporter highlights its continued presence in the market, although export earnings declined compared to the previous year.
